HONEYBEE HIGH TEA

High Tea, or afternoon tea, is a British tradition which is becoming more popular in North America, and something I've been dying to go to. There are lots of places in Vancouver that offer an afternoon tea, one of the most popular locations being even further at The Empress in Victoria, but unfortunately not very local and a bit pricey. One place that serves High Tea that many don't know about is the Honeybee Centre, located on Fraser Highway in Surrey, just before Langley.

The Honeybee Centre is sort of a local landmark with most people having visited there at least once in their life. However, the last time I visited I was in kindergarten, meaning they've had major renovations since. It's now turned into part bee sanctuary/store/beestro (great use of pun by them btw) and a modern and relaxing hub in the heart of the very busy area.

Inside the Beestro

The Beestro had a surprisingly new and contemporary feel which made the traditional nature of the tea a bit more fun

With multiple selections of different honey-themed foods and teas, this meal comes at a reasonable price of $18. They also offer children's ($12) and gluten -free ($20) options.

I chose the classic earl grey black tea to drink which came as loose leaves in a small french press. Although I usually have my tea with milk and sugar, the only sweetener option was of course honey. This changed the classic flavour of earl grey a bit, but was amazing nonetheless. The sweets were a lot smaller than expected but after finishing the delicious bottom tier, were definitely more than enough.

Adding to the modern yet relaxing vibe, a small coy pond sat in the corner next to the entrance.

I would definitely recommend visiting the Honeybee Centre if you're looking for a cheaper and closer option for High Tea in the Surrey area! Great food, great location, and great atmosphere for a cheap price. Let us know if you check it out!
