Another season has begun, and fashion's still having it's embroidery moment. When patches and embroidery first appeared in mainstream fashion, I was fully on board. However, I wanted to find something a bit different than the standard flower on the back. I decided that I wanted floral embroidery all down the sleeves, but after searching and searching only found extremely expensive ones. Being a broke uni student that was not an option and this DIY was born

I ordered 5 of these patches on Amazon for $13 (in February!!). They were meant to arrive around the middle of March, bit after waiting 2 months i had to ask for a refund. Unexpectedly, they arrived last week meaning they were free!

Supplies

  • A hoodie in the colour of your choice

  • Floral patches (with some spare to cut up for the leaves)

  • Fabric glue

  • Stop-fraying glue

  • Scissors

Step 1:

Lay out your hoodie and flatten one sleeve so that the shoulder seam is centered. Using your patches, plan your placement and design.

Step 2:

Cut patches to your liking. Also cut leaves off of any extra patches to use to fill empty spaces. Use stop-fraying glue to ensure the design will not unravel.

Step 3:

Lay out your patches again to make your final placement. Use tape to keep in place, or take a picture to reference when gluing down.

Step 4:

Apply a generous layer of fabric glue section by section and press down firmly. Make sure to not over-glue or put glue too closely to the edge as it could ooze out and be seen on the hoodie. I put a heavy book on top of the finished section to help reinforce the bond.

Step 5:

Repeat design on other sleeve and let dry overnight.

If any of the edges lift up, sew them down as adding glue would cause the hoodie to become too stiff.

And you're done!
