DOCUMENTARIES YOU SHOULD WATCH ON NETFLIX

These are some of the most notable documentaries I've watched on Netflix. Many of them focus on huge social issues and do a very good job of educating viewers on them. Some are crime documentaries (a.k.a my favourite) and I threw in an animal one as well. This list will probably continue to grow because I watch like three documentaries a week.
1. Shadow of Truth
This is a four-part crime documentary focusing on the 2006 murder of a thirteen-year old girl. It definitely has some "Making a Murder" vibes going on so if you liked that series you will love this one. If you start be prepared to binge becuase you won't stop till it's done (the fourth episode is wild).
2. The Hunting Ground
This documentary is based on the rape epidemic on college campuses. It's very well done and shines light on how rape victims are treated and how the institutions try and cover up the problem. Definitely, something that I think everyone should watch to shed light on this issue.
3. 13th
This one is about how American prisons are disproportionately filled with Blacks and the racial inequality behind it. Honestly with all the shit going on it's a must see. It's extremely angering and frustrating to watch but all of the interviewee's are incredible and it's a 10/10.
4. Casting JonBenet
This actually just came out a few days ago and I had been excited to watch it since I saw the trailer for it. It was pretty strange and seemed to be more about the actors, who were auditioning to play the various roles of those involved in the case, then the case itself. If you've never hear of the case before maybe watch one of the hundreds of documentaries out there on it or google it. This doesn't really give you much information of the murder case more of the actors theories and feelings of what happened. But, it quite haunting and will kind of leave you wondering what the hell you just watched.
5. Monkey Kingdom
Okay honestly these monkeys are so cute and this was a wild rollercoaster of emotions. So if you like watching animals documentaries or just like monkeys then watch it because you won't regret it. You might cry though because I cried like three times (but I'm also a baby). But, just look at that lil wrinkly baby monkey.
6. Cartel Land
This is on the Mexican drug war. It shows two different vigilante groups that are fighting the war, one is an American group in Arizona and the other is one in Mexico. It's super graphic so be warned, but it's really interesting especially the story surrounding the group in Mexico called the Autodefensas.
7. The Witness
This is another crime documentary that shows the story of Bill Genovese who is investigating the murder of his older sister Kitty. Kitty was murdered back in 1964 and it was said that 38 people were witnesses to the attack and murder and did nothing to help. Bill tries to find out the truth to see if all these people really watched and did nothing. Pretty good kind of drags a bit but still solid enough to be on this list.
